Network Engineers manage and support an organisation’s hardware and software assets. They hold primary responsibility in managing the resolution of network failures, supporting network integrity, and ensuring network performance meets the organisational requirements. As part of this function, a Network Engineer is accountable for ensuring that identified problems are communicated timely and clearly to all necessary parties.

Learning & Development MentorDuring your Network Engineer apprenticeship you will study the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) curriculum. The first module introduces the architectures, models, protocols, and networking elements that connect users, devices, applications, and data through the Internet and across modern computer networks – including IP addressing and Ethernet fundamentals.
The second course in the CCNA curriculum focuses on switching technologies and router operations that support small-to-medium business networks and includes wireless local area networks (WLAN) and security concepts.
The third CCNA course describes the architectures and considerations related to designing, securing, operating, and troubleshooting enterprise networks – including wide area network (WAN) technologies and quality of service (QoS) mechanisms for secure remote access, along with software-defined networking, virtualisation, and automation concepts supporting network digitalisation.
This module will cover a wide range of concepts, approaches and techniques that are applicable to business processes and how to comply with them. Apprentices will gain an understanding of how to develop and align an IT Strategy with business objectives. The apprentice will gain an understanding of how to develop, implement and comply with an IT governance structure developed in accordance with industry relevant Ethics, Standards and Legislation. The module will cover the UK relevant IT Laws and Standards like the ISO 27001 Standard, The Computer Misuse Act and The Data Protection Act 2018 / GDPR
Alongside the three courses in the CCNA curriculum, apprentices will be introduced to Microsoft Azure’s cloud concepts, core services, solutions and management tools, general security, and network security, identity and compliance features and cost management. In addition to this they will go deeper into Microsoft Azure’s features management and implementation of identities and governance, compute resources, the configuration of virtual networking, and backup resources.
As part of your Network Engineer apprenticeship, you will study the entry-level ITIL qualification introduces learners to IT service management using an end-to-end operating model for the creation, delivery, and continual improvement of digital products and services. This covers the core service management activities and will help you to improve how services are developed.
