The wealth manager has recruited Justin Onuekwusi as chief investment officer.

He will join SJP in October.

Onuekwusi has more than 20 years of experience in the investment management industry, having recently worked as head of retail investments, Emea and head of retail multi-asset funds at Legal & General Investment Management.

Boston Multi Family Office

The Isle of Man-headquartered family office has made several changes to its management team.

Nick Gilbert joins as chief financial officer and will lead all financial operations in both Boston’s Isle of Man and Malta offices.

Stephen Wilson becomes chief operating officer and will join the group board and the board of Boston Limited.

He has been promoted from head of group finance. Wilson takes over the position from Alex McNee, who along with chief executive Katherine Ellis, led the management buyout of Boston in 2019.

McNee will now assume the newly created role of group director, mergers and acquisitions.

Boston is also announcing the appointment of Richard Grainger as chairman.

He has spent 30 years in corporate finance since qualifying as an accountant with PwC and was formerly chief executive Officer of Close Brothers Corporate Finance.

Nucleus

The wrap platform has hired Mark Hastings as group finance director.

He has spent the last 18 years working across the platform industry, with the last six as head of finance at Hargreaves Lansdown.

Suntera Global

The financial services provider has appointed Kathryn Wilkinson as head of operations.

Prior to joining Suntera, Wilkinson held the position of director of central operations at the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC).

Financial Planning Standards Board

The international professional body has named Ana Claudia Akie Utumi as chair of the board for a two-year term.

She succeeds Garry Muriwai.

Utumi is the founding partner of Utumi Advogados in Brazil and has more than 30 years of experience in tax.

Butterfield

The banking group has named Robert Kirkby as a director of its Jersey operation.

Kirkby was an advisory partner at international accountancy firm KPMG Channel Islands.

Farro Capital

The Singapore-based wealth management firm and multi-family office has appointed Vincent Valladares as a senior adviser.

He brings over 27 years of international finance experience and led teams at various banks including Bank of Singapore, RBL Bank and Citibank.

Janus Henderson Investors

The asset management giant has hired Shanice Loo as director of sales management.

In this newly created role, Loo will coordinate sales campaigns, oversee distribution team workflow and manage Janus Henderson’s master agent relationship in Taiwan.

Loo joins Janus Henderson following a brief career break.

Prior to that, she was head of funds distribution at Aberdeen Standard Investments, where she garnered more than a decade of client service experience.

Partners Capital

The outsourced investment office has appointed Euan Finlay as head of Emea.

He joins from Goldman Sachs in 2009, where he worked in their investment banking division focused on mergers and acquisitions.

Finlay succeeds John Collis, who will be retiring after 19 years with the firm.

The wealth group has hired Jason Edwards as partner and chief compliance officer, according to his Linkedin profile.

Edwards was previously at St James’s Place, where he was head of the compliance advisory division.

Butterfield

The banking group has appointed Richard Saunders as managing director of Jersey.

This is in addition to his current role as managing director of Channel Islands and UK.

Saunders, who served as managing director of Guernsey since 2015, takes over responsibility for Jersey from Noel McLaughlin.

Alan Bain has been promoted to managing director of Guernsey. Bain has served as chief financial officer in Guernsey since 2016.

Lastly, Maria Moore has been appointed as head of finance, banking for the Channel Islands and the UK. She joined the company recently as head of finance in Jersey.

Brown Advisory

The global investment management firm has named Serena Sim as head of intermediary sales for Asia.

Sim joins from Janus Henderson, where she was head of intermediary sales for southeast Asia.

Also, Rebecca Fernandes has been appointed international counsel, based in the firm’s London office.

She was most recently counsel at Lazard Asset Management.

Highvern

The private wealth services provider has appointed Hugh O’Donnell as a client director at its Swiss office.

He joins from Equiom Group, where he was head of fiduciary and senior executive officer in the Middle East.

Eastspring Investments

The asset management business of Prudential has appointed Mike Woolley as head of UK wholesale distribution.

He joined Eastspring in December 2022. He previously held the roles of head of UK wholesale at Gresham House and BNP Paribas Asset Management, and has also served as head of UK sales at EFG Asset Management.

Hawksford

The financial services provider has promoted 59 employees to new roles throughout its international client facing and business support services teams during the first month of 2023.

These include 27 in Jersey, 14 in China, eight respectively in Hong Kong and Singapore, and one promotion each in London and Ireland.

The promotions include Fabio Stella being promoted to the role of director in China, Karen Gallagher as global head of marketing (Jersey) and Jennie Ekedahl as managing director of private client services (Jersey).

AllianceBernstein

Tom Laker has been named as UK retail sales manager at the investment manager.

He will be responsible for developing client relationships in London and the Channel Islands.

Most recently, he was at Gam, where he was client manager, building its London and Channel Island distribution footprint.

STM Group

The cross-border financial services firm has appointed Peter Smith as an independent non-executive director.

He was chief financial officer of Lighthouse Group from 2008 until 2019, when the business was acquired by Quilter.

Most recently, he has been an adviser to Quilter in respect of its integration of Lighthouse Group.

Credit Suisse sells global trust business https://international-adviser.com/credit-suisse-sells-global-trust-business/ Tue, 06 Sep 2022 10:15:30 +0000 https://international-adviser.com/?p=41694 Swiss private banking group Credit Suisse has signed separate agreements with Butterfield and Gasser Partner for the sale of its global trust business (CST) for an undisclosed sum.

The CST entities will continue to operate with a limited number of clients.

Under the agreements, Butterfield will buy CST’s businesses based in Guernsey, Singapore, and The Bahamas, while Gasser Partner will acquire CST’s Liechtenstein business.

The transaction with Butterfield is expected to close in the first half of 2023 and is subject to customary conditions, including regulatory approvals. The transfer of the trust structures in Liechtenstein will occur on a rolling basis and is also expected to complete in the first half of 2023.

Upon completion of the transactions, Butterfield and Gasser Partner will take over the ongoing management and administration of most of the trust structures in the respective jurisdictions. A significant portion of CST’s employees are expected to transfer to Butterfield. The CST-related legal entities and any residual business will be wound down by Credit Suisse over the next few years.

With the completion of the transfers, clients will have continued access to trust services through either Butterfield or Gasser Partner.

Butterfield is an offshore bank and trust company headquartered in Bermuda. Gasser Partner is a registered trust company and forms part of the Gasser Partner law firm in Liechtenstein.

This transaction expands our global trust operations in Singapore, Guernsey, and The Bahamas and enhances our fee-based revenue income.

“This is another important step in our strategy to grow through M&A in markets where we have scale and have a market leadership position. It underscores our continuing commitment to expand Butterfield’s presence in Asia, the Channel Islands, and The Bahamas.”

The investment platform has named Michael Summersgill as chief executive.

Summersgill has been with AJ Bell since 2007 and is currently deputy chief executive. He has also held the position of chief financial officer since 2011. As previously announced, he will be succeeded as chief financial officer by Peter Birch on 1 July 2022.

He will succeed Andy Bell on 1 October 2022, subject to regulatory approval.

Bell will remain on the AJ Bell Board and will assume the position of non-executive deputy chair with effect from the same date.

Matthews Asia

The investment firm has named Cooper Abbott has been appointed chief executive.

Most recently, Abbott served as president and chairman at Carillon Tower Advisors, where he founded and built a global multi-boutique asset management company providing equity, fixed income and multi-asset class solutions to a range of institutional and retail investors.

He succeeds William Hackett who, as previously announced, will retire as chief executive and a member of the board of directors on 30 June 2022. He will continue to serve as an adviser to Matthews Asia during this transition period in order to assist in the transfer of responsibilities.

Butterfield Group

Karim Chowdhury has joined the group as vice president in private banking, according to his Linkedin profile.

He will be based in Bermuda.

Chowdhury was previously at Schroders Personal Wealth, where he was strategic partnership development manager.

Suntera Global

The financial services provider has appointed Dan Bisson as managing director of its operations in the Channel Islands.

He was previously managing director of Nedgroup Trust, which was acquired by Suntera Global in April 2022.

Carrick Wealth

The advice group has named Fred van Niekerk as the general manager of Carrick International.

He has been with the Carrick Group since its inception in 2014, working initially as an adviser, then director and regional head of Western Cape, then going on to lead the Carrick Partners business division as its general manager.

Abbey Wealth

Rosie Edwards has been hired as head of programme management at the European advice firm.

She will lead the planning, implementation and reporting on all corporate project and programme activity in Ireland, Spain and Switzerland.

Edwards was previously at UK advice firm Succession Wealth.

MFSA

The Maltese regulator has announced that Michelle Mizzi Buontempo will be acting chief executive.

The MFSA said that current chief executive Joseph Gavin is “currently indisposed”.

She will take over responsibilities of Gavin during his absence.

Natixis Investment Managers

The asset manager has appointed Marco Barindelli as head of Italy.

He joins Natixis IM from Schroders Investment Management, where he worked for over twenty years holding various senior sales roles across different client segments.

Close Brothers Asset Management (CBAM)

The wealth firm has hired five senior investment professionals to bolster its operation in the south east of England.

James Nield joins as a managing director. Robert Clough, Tim Harman and Simon Heathcoat Amory join as investment directors, with Joe Boxall joining as investment manager.

They join CBAM from Sanlam Private Wealth and Rathbones. They are currently based across London and Chichester.

IM Global Partner

Jackie Mills has been named as managing director and chief marketing officer.

She was previously head of international marketing for Eaton Vance.

Allspring Global Investments

The independent asset manager has appointed Charlie Wilson as head of financial institutions for the UK and Switzerland.

Before joining Allspring, Wilson worked as head of European accounts at PGIM Investments.

UBS

The Swiss private bank has announced three additions to its Thailand and Philippines business.

It has hired Maria Quintos as senior client advisor in its Thailand team.

Quintos will be located in Singapore focusing on ultra high net worth relationships.

Prior to joining UBS, Quintos was the president and chief executive of Maybank ATR Kim Eng Capital Partners.

Meanwhile, Nicolo Nicandro and Natalie Boey have joined the UBS Philippines team as client advisers.

The duo will also be based in Singapore.

Nicandro was previously senior associate, investment counsellor at Bank of Singapore in Manila, where he managed global multi-asset portfolios of private clients. Boey was at a similar role previously with Citi Singapore for almost 15 years.

IQ-EQ

The financial services firm has promoted Jersey-based Marisa Warren to regional head of onboarding and implementation for the UK, Ireland and the Crown Dependencies.

Marisa joined IQ-EQ in June 2019, having previously been a vice president and board director of State Street Administration Services (UK) Limited, where she was responsible for all aspects of client servicing for private equity funds.

Evelyn Partners

The wealth manager has appointed Ricky Wilson as a financial planner in the firm’s Bracknell office.

Wilson joins Evelyn Partners from Wesleyan, where he was a specialist financial adviser providing financial planning services tailored to meet the needs of doctors.

Nathalie Flury and Michael Schröter have been named co-heads of sustainable healthcare equity.

They are based in Switzerland and will be responsible for establishing a sustainable healthcare investment strategy, as the firm eyes the introduction of a sustainable healthcare fund.

Flury and Schröter join from Viopas Partner, a Swiss asset manager, where they served as founding partners.

Momentum Global Investment Management

Andrew Hardy has been promoted to director of investment management.

He will oversee the firm’s investments team and be responsible for managing key relationships with clients and partners.

Hardy has been at Momentum Global since 2005 holding several senior positions.

Stonehage Fleming

The family office recruited Steven Brown as director of group business development.

He will be tasked with the distribution of the firm’s flagship Global Best Ideas Equity fund into the UK wholesale market.

Brown joins from Merian Global Investors where he served as wholesale and discretionary sales director.

Aberdeen Standard Investments

Aberdeen Standard Investments promoted Katie Trowsdale to head of multi-manager strategies.

She has been a member of the multi-manager solutions team for nine years and held senior roles within the team for seven.

Mediolanum International Funds

Bish Limbu joined the Dublin-based asset management platform as head of multi-manager function.

He will oversee a team of portfolio managers covering multi-manager equity, fixed income and multi-asset strategies, as well as the research team.

Limbu was most recently a senior fund manager at Octopus Investments.

Carmignac

Abdellah Bouziane has taken on the role of global head of compliance at the French independent asset manager.

He will lead compliance in all seven of the European countries in which the firm operates.

Prior to joining, Bouziane spent 13 years at Axa Investment Managers holding various senior compliance roles.

Butterfield

Bermuda-headquartered wealth manager Butterfield expanded its trust team with two senior appointments.

Amy Glover, based in London, will become vice president of strategic relations for group trust, while Mark Farrell will join as head of trust in Singapore.

Most recently, Glover was global director of private client at ALM/Legal Week, while Farrell served as head of trusts for ultra-high net worths at Bank of Singapore.

Main Street Partners

The ESG advisory and portfolio analytics specialist firm named Liron Mannie as research analyst.

She joins from PwC where she worked as a senior associate in the sustainability and climate change consulting division.
