The business will operate independently of Deutsche Bank, which will retain its existing private credit business. It will be chaired by Jon Aisbitt, the former chairman of Pension Insurance Corporation and Man Group, and run by chief executive Raheman Meghji.

DBIP will invest across a range of private credit investment strategies and asset classes including corporates, real estate and asset-based finance. This will include renewable finance and energy-transition financing as well as infrastructure financing, globally.

Meghji said: “Deutsche Bank has a longstanding track record in private-credit investing across sectors and geographies. DBIP will offer investors a way to access a set of differentiated investment opportunities sourced through Deutsche Bank’s global-banking footprint and local-market presence.”

Aisbitt added: “Investor and borrower demand for private credit solutions continues to grow. Deutsche Bank has a strong track record in the space and the senior DBIP team has a wealth of investment experience through the cycle and across asset classes.”

The asset management giant has named Peter Hall as chairman of Schroders Wealth Management and Mary-Anne Daly as global head of wealth management.

Hall will continue to oversee Schroders’ global wealth strategy and to chair the Cazenove Capital and Benchmark Capital boards.

Daly retains her role as chief executive of Cazenove Capital, while also taking ultimate responsibility for the wealth management offices in the Channel Islands, Switzerland, and Singapore.

She will chair the boards of Schroders Channel Islands. Schroders Bank, and Schroders Asia.

Dominic Emmerson has also become deputy chief executive of Cazenove Capital.

Novia Financial

The platform business has appointed Lucy Bristow as chief customer officer, with immediate effect.

Bristow moved to Novia from the Wealthtime platform in March last year to take up the role of strategic partnerships director with responsibility for senior relationships with strategic adviser partnerships across the group and she had more recently stepped into the role of people experience director.

To support Bristow, Nicola Clark, who previously worked at Novia’s sister platform Amber, rejoins the business as customer service transformation lead.

Man Group

The global investment management firm has appointed Robyn Grew as chief executive.

This comes after Luke Ellis informed the board of his decision to retire.

Grew is currently president of Man Group and a member of the senior executive committee, based in the US.

She will take over from Ellis as chief executive as of 1 September 2023, at which time she will also join the Man Group Board as an executive director. While she will relocate to the UK following her appointment, she will continue to spend a substantial proportion of her time in the US, given the firm’s presence there.

Ellis will continue as chief executive and remain an executive director of the company until 1 September 2023 to ensure an orderly transition and oversight of the company’s 2023 interim results.

BNY Mellon Pershing

The provider of global financial business solutions has named Colin Murphy as chief commercial officer of its Emea business, effective May 2023.

Murphy joins from SmartTrade, where he was chief revenue officer.

The Openwork Partnership

The UK financial services network has recruited Warren Vickers as commercial development director.

He was previously managing director at Tenet Compliance Services.

Nucleus Financial

The adviser platform has appointed Heather Hopkins as chair of its advisory board.

Hopkins is managing director and founder of consultancy firm NextWealth.

Stonehage Fleming

Natasha Newell has been named as director to the group’s family office team in Guernsey.

She has extensive experience of offshore trusts, having worked as a senior lawyer for some offshore law firms, most recently Carey Olsen.

The Independent Investment Management Initiative (IIMI)

The boutique asset management think tank has named Dani Hristova as chief executive.

Hristova joins from Nordea Asset Management, where she was responsible for building the firm’s presence in the UK insurance market.

M&G Wealth

The advice firm has appointed Ella Hugh as its director of proposition and marketing.

Hugh joins the company from Abrdn. where she was latterly group chief of staff and head of client proposition having held senior strategy, planning and management roles since 2016.

Close Brothers Asset Management

The wealth firm has named Adam Finlay as investment manager.

With over 10 years’ experience in the wealth management sector, Finlay began his career at Capelin Financial Management, a West Midlands IFA firm, before joining Investec Wealth & Investment in 2016.

Tyndall Investment Management

The wealth manager has appointed three investment professionals to its private client practice.

Mark Jenkins and Dennis Cooper join the firm as investment directors, while Joe Holland assumes the role of assistant investment manager.

All three join Tyndall from Walker Crips.

Deutsche Bank International Private Bank (IPB)

The banking group has appointed Arjun Badhwar as the deputy head of its global south Asia team.

Badhwar, who is based in Singapore, will take on his role immediately and report to Rajesh Mahadevan, the head of global south Asia.

Julius Baer

Marcel Suhner has taken on the role of head of intermediaries for German- and Italian-speaking Switzerland at the wealth manager.

He is taking over from Michel Yigit, who has decided to pursue a new opportunity outside the bank.

Suhner has been with Julius Baer since 2015, when he joined the intermediaries northern Europe and UK business development team.

Since 2016, he has been head of intermediaries Europe.

David Reymond, head of intermediaries Apac and Emea, will take over as head of intermediaries Europe ad interim.

Progeny

Freya Robertson has been appointed to the new role of chief of staff to the chief executive.

She previously spent four years as executive assistant to chief executive Neil Moles.

Impax Asset Management

The asset manager has hired Leah Wood as global head of marketing and client experience.

She joined Impax in 2016 to build and lead the client service function in North America, and most recently held the role of head of global client experience.

Artemis

The fund manager has hired Toby Gibb as head of investment solutions.

He joins in June from Fidelity International, where he most recently held the role of global head of investment directing.

Also, Artemis has announced that David Hollis will take over management of its multi-asset, absolute return vehicle, the Artemis Strategic Assets Fund.

Hollis joined Artemis in October 2022 to develop systematic, multi-asset solutions for retail and institutional clients.

Evelyn Partners

The wealth management and professional services group has hired Ciara Oliver as a financial planner in its London team.

Oliver was previously at UBS Wealth Management and Killik & Co.

TrustQuay

The technology provider for trust sector has named Diane Betts as global head of professional services.

She previously led digital transformation and payment solution programmes for global banking clients at Fiserv and Dovetail.

Quilter Cheviot

The investment manager has hired Margaret Schmitt as responsible investment analyst.

Schmitt joins Quilter from infrastructure consulting firm AECOM, where she held the role of climate and sustainability consultant.

The expansion into wealth management builds on Deutsche Bank’s local presence in investment and corporate banking.

As a representative office of Deutsche Bank (Switzerland) in South Africa, it also obtained a financial services provider licence from the Financial Sector Conduct Authority of South Africa (FSCA).

South Africa wealth management clients will be booked in Zurich, where the IPB Africa team is based.

Marco Pagliara, head of IPB Emea at Deutsche Bank, said: “Middle East & Africa has been contributing strongly to the growth of Deutsche Bank wealth management’s franchise. The representative office and the South Africa team offer vast experience in wealth management, investment products, with a successful track record of servicing clients in the region.”

Paul Sayers, head of IPB Africa at Deutsche Bank, added: “With this new commitment, clients in South Africa will benefit from the bank’s wealth management investment platform and offering, which covers the entire range from cash management and traditional portfolio management, to complex structuring and alternative asset classes.”

The Gibraltar-headquartered financial services group has hired Tyron Skipper as global head of business development, to expand its partnerships and alliances.

He joins from London-based consultancy firm Witehira, where she spent the last year as managing director.

Brooks Macdonald

The wealth manager has made a trio of senior hires.

Andrew Bennie and Rachael Marsden have become heads of investment management for Manchester and Leeds, respectively. Bennie has been at the company for 13 years, while Marsden joined in 2019.

Additionally, Leanne Barnham will join the business as global head of marketing from Ninety One, where she was head of UK marketing.

LGT Wealth Management

Elliot O’Brien has been promoted to head of business transformation at LGT’s wealth management arm.

He joined the company in 2017 from HSBC Private Bank and was most recently a partner.

Deutsche Bank International Private Bank

The international private banking division of the German banking giant has hired two Asia market heads.

Kevin King and Stella Lau will join as managing director and market heads of north Asia wealth management and will be based in Hong Kong and Singapore, respectively.

King will take on his role in March after he leaves BNP Paribas where he has been head of China; while Lau will join in April from Credit Suisse where she was market leader for China.

Sun Life International

The global insurer has promoted Kate Subak to vice president and chief operating officer.

Most recently, she was at Sun Life Canada, where she led business growth and client experience initiatives.

Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management

Lee McDowell has taken on the position of head of intermediaries, business development at the wealth manager.

He was at Psigma Investment Management for over 12 years, most recently as head of business development.

Standard Chartered

Private banker Shahid Qazi has left Credit Suisse to join Standard Chartered as executive director in Singapore.

He most recently served as vice president at Credit Suisse, after being with the company for nearly seven years.

Freeths

The UK-based law firm has strengthened its private wealth offering with a senior hire.

Tom Gauterin has taken on the role of director and will advise on all aspects of personal tax, including inheritance tax, capital gains tax, income tax and stamp duty land tax.

He was previously at Smith & Williamson, now Evelyn Partners, where he served as a director of private client tax services for nearly three years.

DFSA

The chief executive of the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA), Ian Johnston, has been appointed as vice chair of the Africa and Middle East Regional Committee (Amerc) and as a board member of the International Organisation of Securities Commission (Iosco).

He previously served as chair of the joint forum comprising members of Iosco, the Basel Committee and the International Association of Insurance Supervisors.

LGT Wealth Management

The UK wealth manager has promoted five staff members to partner.

They are:

  • James Arumainayagam, investment manager – joined in 2014;
  • Douglas Monro, investment manager – been at firm since inception;
  • Andrew Vacha, investment manager – been at firm since inception;
  • Hannah Modlock, business development director – joined in 2015; and
  • Mick O’Mara, head of custody services – joined 2017.

Deutsche Bank

The banking giant has named Johanes Oeni as a managing director and head of the international private bank in south east Asia.

Based in Singapore, Oeni will join Deutsche Bank in April 2023 from Credit Suisse, where he led the wealth management business in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Credit Suisse

The bank has promoted Claude Harbonn as market group head for Malaysia and Indonesia, according to an internal memo seen by our sister publication Fund Selector Asia.

Harbonn was most recently the co-head of advisory and sales for Apac at Credit Suisse.

Following Harbonn’s appointment, Credit Suisse has also promoted team leader for Indonesia Heinz Puth as the market group head for Indonesia and he will report to Harbonn.

Puth first joined Credit Suisse in 1986 before leaving the Swiss bank for Julius Baer in 2006. He has held several senior position at Julius Baer including the deputy head of southeast Asia before re-joining Credit Suisse in 2018.

Moreover, Sascha Banz will become the sole head of advisory and sales for Apac and continue to be based in Hong Kong.

Hargreaves Lansdown

The investment firm has appointed chief information and security officer.

Segun joins Hargreaves Lansdown from Sainsburys Bank, where he was chief information security officer.

Rothschild & Co

The financial services giant has named Oren Shapira, Noah Gordon and Rotem Grinfeld as client advisers in its wealth management arm in Israel.

Shapira joins from UBS, where he was most recently a team leader. Gordon previously worked at Discount Bank for 17 years.

Grinfeld has vast experience in managing wealthy clients’ capital at Credit Suisse –and Bank Hapoalim.

Elsewhere, the firm has named Thomas Bamert as head of wealth and pension planning Switzerland.

This comes after the firm entered into a strategic partnership with pension consulting firm PensExpert, which provides pension solutions tailored to the wealth management and private banking industry.

Bamert most recently worked for Bank Julius Baer as a wealth planning adviser.

Church House Investments

The investment manager has appointed Cranley Macfarlane as a client director.

Macfarlane joins after a two-and-a-half-year stint as a fund manager at Tellsons Investors. Prior to that, he was an investment manager at JM Finn for nine years, during which time he focused on private clients.

Indigo Financial Analysis & Consultancy

The UAE advice firm has named Neil Stewart as director.

Stewart was previously senior partner and financial planner at Finsbury Associates.

Alpadis Group

The private wealth services provider has named Bruno Sidler as managing director of its Zurich office.

This is following the retirement of Ewald Scherrer.

Sidler was previously at Vistra, where he was an executive director and partner.

Scherrer will continue his journey with Alpadis Group as non-executive director of Alpadis Trust (Switzerland) going forward.

AllianceBernstein (AB)

The investment manager has recruited Tom Laker as UK retail sales manager.

He will be responsible for developing client relationships in London and the Channel Islands reporting to Lee Matthews, head of UK wholesale.

Most recently, Laker was at GAM, where he was client manager.

Indosuez Wealth Management

The global wealth management brand of Crédit Agricole group has hired Diana Hong, as executive director and team head of north Asia and Elina Yan, executive director of north Asia.

Prior to Indosuez, Hong was at Taipei Fubon Bank as senior vice president and team head of private banking.

Before joining Indosuez, Yan was executive director for the China market at Bank J Safra Sarasin.

Navigation Wealth Management

The Yorkshire-based financial advice firm has appointed Paul Greveson as adviser and business development executive.

He was senior acquisitions consultant at broker IFA Acquisitions.

Praxis

The global private wealth services provider has made a series of promotions.

Jo Abbott has been named client services director in Jersey.

Some seven Channel Islands professionals have moved up to associate director level including Jodie Travers, Samantha Le Brun and Tom Zierer in Guernsey, Alistair Cann and Samantha Godwin in Jersey, and Emma Sanford and Hilary Arthur for HR and investments, respectively.

Other senior promotions include Craig Platt and Lucy Janes to senior trust managers, and Francesca Moullin to senior manager of new business in Guernsey. In Jersey, Jonathan Aldrich-Blake was made senior investment analyst, while Richard Sheppard and Suzanne Dolman were both promoted to senior trust managers.

AJ Bell

The investment firm has hired James Flintoft as fund manager.

He joins AJ Bell from Vertem Asset Management where he was head of investments.

True Bearing

The UK advice group has hired Steve Cook as an independent financial planner, and Ian Bailey as legal intermediary.

Cook was an IFA at Apogee Wealth Management, while Bailey was estate planning consultant at the Willwriting Partnership.

Stephenson Harwood

The law firm has strengthened its global private wealth practice with the addition of Beatrice Puoti.

She joins as a partner based in the firm’s London office from Burges Salmon, where she was a partner and head of the firm’s private wealth sector.

Pimfa

The trade association for wealth management, investment services and the personal investment and financial advice industry has hired Andrew Shepherd and Helen O’Neill to its board of directors.

Shepherd is Brooks Macdonald chief executive, while O’Neill is chief operating officer of Tatton Asset Management.
